7 Billion People

Author of article: National Geographic

Date of article written: Dec 27, 2011

Summary

Do you think that 7 billion is a big number? I think it is.It would take you 200 years just to count to 7 billion out loud. Now imagine 7 billion people .The world population is growing  by the minute. Did you know that  every second 5 baby’s are born and 2 people die which means that the world population grows by 3 people every second. But it is not space we need, all of the 7 billion people can fit in Los Angeles shoulder to shoulder. We need clean drinking water because 13% of us don’t have clean water to drink.

My Thoughts

I think it is sad to think that 13% of people in the world don’t have water to drink. I was amazed to find out that the world’s population grows by three people every second. I was also amazed when I found out that it takes you 200 years to count to 7 billion and that you can walk around the world 133 times in 7 billion steps. Before if you said 7 billion I’d  never think about the number that has 9 zeros or the amount of steps you need to take to go around the world 133 .I thought that 7 billion is a lot less than it really is .Now I when you say 7 billion I have a lot more to associate it with.

Current Event

Over the school year in humanities we worked on current events and we had as homework to write current events on things that are happening in the world. This is my second current event.

Date When Written: Wednesday September 28 2011

Summary

On Wednesday 28 2011  there was a huge typhoon in the Philippines .With wind at the speed of 130 kph (80 mph) .The terrible storm killed at least 21 people. The typhoon moved to the South China Sea toward Northern Vietnam and Southern China. The typhoon destroyed $1.7 million worth of stuff. It also destroyed 2.5 million tones rice (16 million dollars) 75 days worth of food.

A typhoon is a tropical storm or hurricane of the western Pacific area and the China seas (DEFINITION FROM: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/typhoon).

My thoughts

My friends helped me find this site and I was going through the site and I spotted a picture of the typhoon and I read something about it and I thought that it was tragic. I was very interested and wanted to find out more about it. I think that the typhoon was huge I wouldn’t want to walk in those peoples shoes. I feel really bad that these things are happening in the world and that so many people are dying because of the natural disasters. I wish that didn’t’ happen and I would love to help the people in the Philippines, give them money and food.
